Spelling Bee Jan. 26; County Commissioners Meeting Jan. 31

Banner County

Hello! Here we are smack dab in the middle of January. Man is time ever flying, sometimes in a winter mode and sometimes not so much.

There has been more ice and my driveway is still blocked. More moisture would be great and to my way of thinking if the ice would melt we would have more moisture!

As you know the Dinner Theater and One Act Play was cancelled due to bad weather in December. However, they performed for the entire school one day last week, and if you were able to attend you know how great it was.

They did an awesome job and provided lots of laughter. Congratulations to all of you and your coaches.

A MAC high school boys basketball tournament will take place in Bridgeport beginning today, January 19th and continue on Saturday the 21st. For times please call the school at 436-5262.

The high school wrestlers will be on the mats Friday, January 20th at Hemmingford and Saturday at Lingle/Ft. Laramie. Both departure times for the buses are in the early a.m. so again call for approximate take down times.

Also on the 21st, the Speech team will be competing in Alliance. On Monday the 23rd you will see music students heading for Bayard to participate in the MAC Choral Clinic. This is a day long event also, and if I remember correctly we are not invited to attend.

However, we are invited and encouraged to take in two boys basketball games here at home on Tuesday the 24th, it's the high school team vs. Leyton at 5:30 p.m. and on Wednesday the 25th at 1 p.m. as the junior high boys take on Leyton. Good luck and safe travel to all of you.

As a heads up, the annual spelling bee will be next week on the 26th. The County Commissioners meeting that was upcoming has been rescheduled for January 31st and will be at 5:30 p.m. The Board of Equalization will meet 15 minutes prior.

The annual business meeting at the Harrisburg Community Church will follow the regular services and a pot luck lunch on Sunday, January 29th. Everyone is invited to attend these meetings.

Over the hill and up north the Lied Library in Scottsbluff will host two days of activity. Friday the 20th they will have Teen & Tween Programming with various events all day, and on Saturday the 21st the Board Game Club invites you to join them between noon and 4:30 p.m.This invitation includes all ages. No pre-registration or fees are involved, and for more information please call 630-6250.

The Midwest Theater will have the performing artist Alexios on their stage Friday evening, January 20th beginning at 7:30 p.m. This young man is a Nebraska born composer and is quoted as saying "he is a classical guitarist musician but a rock & roller at heart." That makes for a very interesting combination. Also at the Midwest the movie 'Devotion' will play On the 21st, and the 22nd. Show times are 7:30 p.m. and 1:30 pm., respectively, and this film is about Jesse Brown the 1st U.S. Navy aviator in history.

Speaking of movies, I don't know if you are an Avatar fan. The first one came out about 16 years ago. This past weekend I finally got to see the second one. In my opinion, it was good, but I liked the first one much better. Tall blue people with pointed ears can be pretty cool.

Have a great week and stay safe until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
