Longhorn Wrestlers Compete At Chadron

Mother Nature continues to affect the Longhorn wrestling season. The team was supposed to attend a tournament on Friday in Hemingford. With the weather cancelling school and practice for 2 days, we made the decision to not attend the tournament on Friday so we could practice and get ready to compete in one of the toughest tournaments we attend on our schedule, the Chadron Invite.

The day was led by James McGinnis’s runner-up finish at 132. Trey Schindler wrestled to a 4th place finish in a very competitive bracket at 152. Cody Brinkman had an outstanding day winning the 132 JV bracket. The team finished in 11th place out of 23 schools with 34 team points despite only having 2 wrestlers scoring points for the team. The tournament was won by No. 3 rated in class B Scottsbluff High School with 183.5 team points

The Longhorns will make the long travel across the state to compete in the Plainview Invite on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Longhorns did receive some good news on the injury front. 106-pound senior Matthew Johnson will return to action at the Plainview Invite. He was cleared to compete from his shoulder injury. He looked very good in practice this week and is eager to finish his senior year off with a bang.

We will then honor our seniors James McGinnis, Trey Schindler and Matthew Johnson on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at our home dual against Burns/Pine Bluffs. This will be our only home competition, so we hope to see a full house.
