Anderson Releases Annual School Report

Superintendent Trevor Anderson’s annual report released at the school board meeting on Monday, Feb. 13, revealed successful NSCAS Performance Data for the 2021-22 school year.

Based on proficiency percentages, the English scores for Kimball students in grades 3-8 and 11 were significantly better than the Nebraska state average in five out of the seven grades.

Meanwhile, Kimball students’ percentage scores were better than the Nebraska state average in mathematics in four out of the seven grades. Science testing was recorded in 8th grade and 11grade, and Kimball students were a few percentage points below the state percentage.

Kimball Public Schools will have their Cognia 5-year accreditation visitation on February 21.

Kimball Jr./Sr. High Principal Danielle Reader’s report to the board summarized recent and future happenings at the school. Student accomplishments included many awards for the FFA students at recent contests and the participation of the JH STEM class attending the Destination Imagination Regional Tournament in Potter. Math Counts students scored big in their competition with a fourth place finish.

The inaugural season for Esports has started with their first competition on Monday after school. Seven students signed up for the new gaming sport were able to participate.

Mary Lynch principal Amanda Culek explained the professional development items that teachers focus on Wednesdays. These include WORDS, Workshop on Reading Development Strategies and Math Training with ESU’s Kristin Kasten. Kimball teachers also will attend the ESU Mid-Winter conference or a coaching conference.

At Mary Lynch, December Students of the Month were Sage Entingh and MacKenzie Miller, while January Students of the Month were Kristell Taylor and Elizabeth Walls.

Activities at Mary Lynch during January included NSCAS/NWEA Testing, Awards Assembly held for K-3 Students with Distinction, A/B Honor Roll and Life Skills Honor Roll.

February activities include the spelling bee, Kindergarten field trip to dentist office, the accreditation visit, and a family coloring contest.

In action items, the board approved a certified contract for Virginia Splichal for the 2023-24 school year and approved the wind turbine as surplus property to sell.

Updating the board on transportation and maintenance was Gregg Fossand, and District Assessment Coordinator Heidi Chesley gave a standards and assessment overview.

The next regular Kimball School Board meeting will be Monday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Kimball County Transit Meeting Room at 233 South Chestnut.
