McGinnis Third, Schindler Fourth And Johnson Fifth At Omaha; Team 14th Of 66
The Kimball Longhorn Wrestling Team brought three state qualifiers to the NSAA State Wrestling Tournament Thursday through Saturday in Omaha.
When the dust settled, they finished with three state medalists.
Senior Matthew Johnson finished his career with a fifth place medal at 106. Senior James McGinnis finished his career with a third place medal at 132. Trey Schindler finished his career with a 4th place medal at 152.
All three seniors finished their careers as three-time state qualifiers and now state medalists.
This is the first time since 2010 that Kimball has bought home a state medalist. That was when Shawn Nagel bought home his third state title. This is the first time since 2009 that Kimball has bought home multiple state medalist in one year.
As a team the Longhorns finished in 14th place out of 66 schools with 46 team points. The Class D State title was won by Aquinas Catholic of David City with 152.5 points.
