Don't Know If Mother Nature Got The Memo, But It's Spring!

Good morning. I hope this finds you all doing well. St. Paddy’s Day is over and the first day of Spring was officially the 20th of March, a few short days ago.

I don’t know if Mother Nature got the memo, so we will just leave it at that. The wind has been living up to its reputation for the month of March and kite flying – and making some of those beautiful days quite uncomfortable.

There are a few events in the area that seem to be season related. The folks at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center in Alliance will be hosting a book signing for Andrea Myers tonight, March 23rd at 6 p.m. Her book, “ Behind The Wire,” is about a young woman in the Midwest coming of age during WWII.

Also on the 23rd in Mitchell, there will be a Family STEAM Night at the Mitchell Event Center. It will run from 6-7:30 p.m. with food, art, a 4-H booth and a petting zoo just to name some of the interesting things you might want to check out.

Here is the one event that made me think of the change in seasons. From March 24-26, there will be rodeo as the Lancer Rodeo will be taking place at the Goshen County Fairgrounds, Yes, it is that time of the year.

The Carpenter Center will hold a fundraiser from 5- 8 p.m. on Friday, March 24th. They will host a Murder Mystery Dinner, “A Dark and Stormy Murder.” Cocktails will be served at 5 p.m. with dinner and a show following. If you would like more information please call 635-8422.

The annual Spring Daze Craft and Vendor Show will be on Saturday, March 25th, at the Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport. There will be free admission and concessions, crafts, home decor and more on site from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Monday, March 27th Box Butte County 4-H will host a “Fun Draiser” (yes, I got that right) at the Westside Event Center in Alliance. There will be a silent auction, food, and a Buy & Take table. More information is available by calling 762-5616, and they will be having fun from 5-7:30 p.m.

Also on the 27th at the Gering library, there will be a discussion on lawns and landscaping concerning how to overcome winter kill, snow mold and other winter destruction. More information is available by calling 436- 7433.

There will be opera at the Midwest Theater on Saturday March 25th at 7 p.m. when UNL Opera presents “LaTraviata.”

Here on the home front not a whole lot going on, and that is not such a bad thing.

On Saturday, March 25th, the high school track team will compete in Morrill beginning at 9 a.m.

On Monday the 27th, there will be a MAC music contest at Creek Valley, and beginning that day and through the 31st, there will be a state FFA conference.

Well, that is it for now. Take care and be safe until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
