Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Good morning! For the first part of this week we skipped Spring and jumped right into Summer; well, that is OK by me! We had a beautiful day for Easter and I hope you enjoyed it completely.
The folks in Morrill are getting into the season mode by having a Spring Craft Show at the Morrill American Legion on Saturday, April 15th between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. They will have crafts, homemade goods, door prizes and lunch available on site.
On that same day there will be a late Easter Egg Hunt in the Monument Dog Park, 10 a.m., if the weather is permitting. Also on the 15th, the Torrington/Lingle FFA students will have a fundraiser called “Fry and Cry” beginning at 6 p.m. There will be games and auctions at the Goshen County Rendezvous Center, and if you need more information please call them at 307-532-0494 or 307-331-4485.
In celebration of National Poetry Month there will be a Public Poetry Read at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17th at the Gering Public Library. This is Free and open to the public.
Movies this week at the Midwest Theater will be “The Jesus Revolution” rated PG-13 and playing on the 14th at 7:30 p.m., the 15th at 6:30 p.m. and the 16th at 1:30 p.m.. Also this week on the 15th at 1:30 p.m. the classic “Singin’ in the Rain’”will play. This is rated G and will be Free, with a free will donation. More information is available at 632-4311.
Down south, in Kimball they will hold a Town Hall Meeting on April 19th & 20th in the Kimball County Transit Service building, located at 233 S Chestnut St. The meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. both evenings and the subject topic will be concerns about their comprehensive plan and what is in the future for the residents of Kimball.
Here at home we are so sorry for the passing of life long resident Kevin Wynne. Our condolences are sent to the family. Heads up school students! There will be a regular day of school tomorrow, Friday, April 14th.
The high school track team will head to Alliance the next day for competitions that will begin at 9 a.m. and travel again on the 17th to Chappell, where they will participate in a tri-state meet at 8:30 a.m.
A couple of days later on the 19th the junior high track team will also travel to Chappell for competitions at 9 a.m.
While the track teams are doing their best the kindergarten will be enjoying a ‘Trip Through Time’ as they go to the Legacy of the Plains for a few hours on Wednesday the 19th. The volunteers at the Legacy will be dressed in periodic costumes and teach the students about history, including how to milk a cow. Homemade biscuits may be one of the treats as well a real tipi and many much more to help them experience a bit of history and hopefully to encourage their future interest. Besides all of the fun!
On this same day the second grade class will also have a special day as they travel to Bridgeport to participate in the Extension’s Agplosion. They will have several stations where they will learn about crops, animals, irrigation and more. Besides the fun!
