Good morning Banner County, neighbors and friends near and far. Memorial weekend has come and gone, bringing typical cloudy wet weather with it.

Remembrance of our lost ones,especially those lost in service to this country never lessens whatever the weather. As we move on into the month of June, we begin with more rain forecast, tornado watches, and farmers trying to get it done.

Today, June 1st over in the valley the Scottsbluff Stand Down will take place between 5-7 p.m. at the WNCC Harms Center building. Services will include: lunch, clothing, VA benefit information, housing referrals, employment information/counseling and more. Also on the 1st there will be safety information presented at the Gering United Methodist Church with the “Stepping On Workshop,” which will begin at 9 a.m., and more information on this is available at 436-6636. The church is located at 9th and O street.

The Midwest Theater summer movie program will begin this Thursday – Today! – with the movie Madagascar at 1:30 p.m. It is Free to all “creatures” 12 and under. The SkyView Drive-in will host a Retro-Weekend June 2-4th. Movies that will play will be “Beerfest” on Friday, on Saturday a double feature with Jackie Chan, “The Legend of Drunken Master” and “Rumble in the Bronx,” and on Sunday, “Young Einstein, Cheers to Beer.” The gates open at 8:15 and the movies begin at 9 p.m.

The annual Monument Valley Iris Show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 3rd from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. and on June 4th from noon - 3 p.m. This is held at the University of Nebraska Research Center and for more information please call 605-209-7578. Your flowers may be entered if you are lucky enough to have them in bloom!

I know the Scotts Bluff County Fair seems like a long ways off at this point, but tickets for Uncle Kracker will be going on sale June 7 and most likely will sell out, so be aware. Information is available on the fairgrounds website.

Well, here at home it is time for the annual Historical Day celebration which will be this Saturday, June 3rd. There will be pancakes at the fire hall, a fun-run,the parade at 10:30 a.m. , lunch by the FFA students at the school, quilts at the Flowerfield church (you are welcome to bring yours to display), kids games, cornhole and horseshoes.

Tim Nolting will be the guest speaker at the museum at 1:30 p.m. and will have a lot of information on the Bay State Ranch to share with you.

There will also be an ice cream social at the picnic shelter and a BBQ cook-off. You are asked to pre-register for the cook-off if possible by calling Matt Rundell at 308-673-5033.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. the Historical Society will furnish burgers,brats,and table service for a carry-in supper. You are asked to bring a salad or dessert and come join in, everyone is invited.
