Tennessee Couple Visits Kimball County To Get High On Nebraska
Ty Proffitt is known as a "high pointer," and his wife Sheila accompanies him on some of his high point trips.
The couple left Tennessee at 3 a.m. on this particular trip and flew into Denver, then drove straight to their first high point adventure, Panorama Point, in southwestern Kimball County.
Ty and Sheila will cross Nebraska's high point off their list, as well as those in South Dakota, North Dakota and Colorado. Before Tuesday, Ty had visited the high points in 34 states. They will return to Denver and fly back to Tennessee on Monday.
Ty said Nebraska's high point is "very nice," meaning it was easy. You drive right up to it. They will end their trip hiking Colorado's high point, Mount Elbert, near Leadville, Colo. Mount Elbert is 14,440 feet high, while Panorama Point is 5,429 feet.
Ty said, "It is neat to see all the different ecosystems. I especially like the northwest; that is where I grew up."
Their next trip will be to the high points of Kansas, Iowa and Illinois.
They aren't just focused on high points; while they were coming through Kimball, Sheila saw the courthouse and wanted to stop and see it.
