Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball Public Schools Superintendent Trevor Anderson presented the 2023-24 budget information on Monday at the budget hearing.
According to the presentation, the valuations in Kimball County are up 9.3% from last year but the Kimball Public Schools property tax rate will decrease by 13%. The property tax rate last year was 0.951276, in 2022 the tax rate was 1.04, and for 2023-24 the proposed tax rate is .0900000.
This is due in part to the increase in Kimball Public Schools state aid. State aid for Kimball will be $615,620 up from 2022 figure of $51,679.
The regular school board meeting followed the budget hearing. Kimball Jr./Sr. High Principal Danielle Reader reported that NSCAS and Pre-ACT testing was planned to be done on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
In other schools news, the sophomore career class will have Hannah Snyder as its first speaker. She will discuss her business, Nebraska Coffee.
Mary Lynch Elementary Principal Amanda Culek’s report said that total enrollment for Pre-K to 6th grade is 226. September dates to remember include Sept 11-15 NSCAS/NWEA TESTING, Sept. 19 individual and class pictures will be taken, and on the 28th the 4th grade will go to Flowerfield School in Harrisburg.
Superintendent Anderson’s financial update shows 100% of fiscal year completed with 76.51% of the budget spent. The actual year to date expenditures are $9,270,067.31, and the current cash balance in the General Fund is $1,963,143.69.
In the action items, the school board approved the tax request resolution and approved the adoption of the 2023-24 budget for the general fund, depreciation fund, activities fund, school nutrition fund, and special building fund for Kimball Public Schools.
The board approved the out-of-state FFA trip to Indianapolis, Ind., for the national convention Nov. 1-4. Twelve students will be attending the FFA convention.
The next board meeting will be Monday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the KCTS building.
