It's Beginning To Feel A Lot Like Christmas?

Banner County

Good morning and Happy October! Halloween and Christmas decorations are on sale everywhere. Are you ready?

I myself am trying to get into the spirit of fall, my most favorite time of the year. However, this year it seems like summer got such a late start that it is ending much too soon. But as we all know, time marches on.

So, did you head to Kimball for Farmers Day this past weekend? I was there for awhile, but not as much as I have been over the years. Hope you made it to at least some of the events. Beautiful weather the whole weekend.

Today, October 5th, the preschool kids storytime is both at 10 a.m. or 6:15 p.m. at the Leid library in Scottsbluff, and the Wildcats cross country team is headed to Sidney.

Also in Sidney, the big 49th annual celebration of Oktoberfest begins the 6th and lasts through Sunday the 8th. A full schedule can be found at sidneycktoberfest.org. They will have a parade, live music, beer garden, food vendors, kids entertainment, crafts and weiner dog races.

Also, on the 6th, there will be football action here at home as the team plays Garden County at 7 p.m. – and there will be a Meet & Greet Miss Nebraska, Morgan Baird, at 5 p.m. at Hotel 21 in Gering, 2605 10th Street. There also will be a Husker tailgate party and a silent and live auction. The event begins at 5 p.m. and tickets are available at the Midwest Theater, Powerhouse, and Suites on Broadway.

That same evening the Midwest Theater will play the first showing of "American Graffiti," the 50th anniversary of that movie, at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. It also will show on the 7th at 7 p.m. and on the 8th at 1:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the 7th, the Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff will be selling coffee and grebel between 8 and 10 a.m. If you pre-order by calling 632-8125 you can pick up your order that morning from 7-9 a.m.

The evening of the 7th, B E Farm Pumpkin Patch and the Gering Kiwanis "Haunted Night Maze" will open at 5:30 p.m. Gates will close at 8:30 p.m. Their address is 11249 Road 73, Bayard.

In Mitchell at the Pinnacle Bank, the RE-Boo Halloween Costume Drive & Closet is open now through the 20th. Drop off your gently used costumes,or pick them up – Free – from the 23rd to 27th.

The 7th, Saturday, is also the date for the German Harvestfest at the Scotts Bluff County fairgrounds in Mitchell. There will be a dinner at 5 p.m. and dancing at 6:30 p.m. with Bob Schmer and the River Boys Polka Band. Tickets are available at the fairgrounds office.

Sunday the 8th of October, the Harrisburg Community Church is having its annual Harvest Dinner at 6 p.m., and St. Agnes Church in Scottsbluff will have its Fall Dinner from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.

Monday, October 9th, is Columbus Day so most federal and some county services will all be closed.

On the 10th, the volleyball team will head to Guernsey to play Guernsey-Sunrise at 4 p.m.

On the 11th, the Teen Advisory group will meet at 3 p.m. at the Gering library, and the Banner FFA area land judging students will be heading to Scotts Bluff County, while the volleyball and football teams will be in Leyton for volleyball at 1 p.m. and football at 2 p.m. Good luck and safe travel to all of you.
