Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Kimball residents were warned to avoid the area of a reported shooting Tuesday evening in which a victim was transported by ambulance to Kimball Health Services.
The incident occurred in the 3400 block of Highway 30 in eastern Kimball, according to an emergency alert texted out at 5:39 p.m. The emergency system also alerted residents by phone and a shooting was mentioned on the scanner, so word of the situation spread quickly.
The alert followed Kimball police and Kimball County sheriff's officers being called to the scene, where Finer Motel is located. The State Patrol soon rushed multiple vehicles to the scene.
A suspect was in custody.
Officials said there was no threat to the community at that time, but people were advised to avoid the area. Crime tape was soon put up, and lights flashed on law enforcement vehicles as dusk set in.
The incident unfolded as Kimball's annual trick-or-treat Halloween parade was winding down a few miles away.
