Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Don Lease has been appointed to be the newest Banner County commissioner. He will serve the remaining term of long-time commissioner Robert Gifford that expires January 5, 2025.
The appointed followed an open session on Thursday, Dec. 7, in which a committee of Banner County officials interviewed three candidates for the open county commissioner seat. Those interviewed were Eddie Shaul, Lacy Krakow and Don Lease.
The interviewing committee is composed of County Clerk Katie West, County Treasurer Kathy Natale, and County Attorney Mark Kovarik, as determined under a state statute.
Lease may be familiar to people of Kimball, Banner and Scottsbluff counties. Lease ran for the Nebraska Legislature 48th District in 2022.
Lease is a long-time resident of Banner County, where he served on the school board and the Pumpkin Creek Water Advisory Committee. He has also served on area advisory boards, including the Kimball-Banner County Extension, Behavioral Health Service, Panhandle Public Health, and Potters Wheel Ministries.
