Coyote Boys & Girls Split Against Caliche, Banner County

Potter-Dix’s basketball teams each went 1-1 over the past week, with both teams dropping their contests against Caliche, and then both winning their games against Banner County.

On December 14, the Caliche Buffalo teams came up from Colorado, and the action started with the girls game.

The Lady Buffs were tough on defense, allowing very few good looks for the Lady Coyotes to start off the game. After Caliche built a 15-4 lead in the first quarter, Potter-Dix roared back in the second quarter, putting up 13 points in the period.

But the Lady Coyotes were unable to slow the Caliche offense, and the teams went into the break with Caliche up 30-17. Caliche’s strong defense and good outside shooting were hard for Potter-Dix to overcome, as the Lady Buffs seemed quicker and were more effective with their passes. The Lady Coyotes came back after the break with a 10 point third quarter, but again were unable to slow the Lady Buffs offense that put up 16 in the period.

Potter-Dix was unable to make up the deficit in the fourth period, and fell by a final score of 56-35.

The boys contest was a much tighter affair, with a slow start offensively that carried through the entire game. There was a lot of tough and physical defense on both sides, and the game was a low-scoring battle the whole way through.

The Caliche boys were able to sink just a few more shots than the Coyotes, and took the win by a final score of 38-35.

On December 15, the Coyotes hosted the Banner County Wildcat teams with better results.

The girls game started as a tight contest, with Potter-Dix holding a 13-12 edge after the first period, but the Potter-Dix defense put the clamps on in the second period, shutting out the Banner County girls while putting up 21 points of their own to take a 34-12 lead at halftime. Potter-Dix continued the great defense in the second half, limiting Banner County to just nine points while putting up another 24 points in the half to take a 58-21 victory.

In the boys game, the Banner County boys put up a strong fight, but the sharp Potter-Dix shooting and strong defense were too much for the Wildcats. Potter-Dix took away a 55-46 victory, powered by senior Brayden Kasten’s 32 points.

The Coyotes were next scheduled to host Minatare on December 19.
