Happy Valentine’s Day!
Many area celebrations are offered to help with this mid-week holiday on the weekend prior. A few include:
• This evening, February 8th, February Sip & Shop at 401 Beltline Hwy. W Suite 5, Scottsbluff.
• Several on the 9th: Valentine’s Day Date Night in Mitchell, which will include a movie, flowers & gifts, and dinner. This will be available on Friday the 9th at 5 p.m. and on Saturday the 10th at 8 p.m. Contact information is available at Pinnacle Bank or Redz Bar & Grill.
• Elodie’s Oddities at 102 E Overland in Scottsbluff will have a Valentine’s Day Glass Fusing event on the 9th at 6 p.m.
• Saturday at Uptown Scottsbluff there will be a “Love Is In The Air” vendor expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• The folks at the YMCA Trails West Camp are offering a Valentine’s Day Cabin Getaway over two weekends. Choose either the 9th & 10th or the 16th & 17th by calling 308-641-9587 and making your reservation.
Other than Valentine’s Day, basketball continues at home with the middle school girls and boys getting ready for a MAC tournament which is scheduled to be played the 8th to 10th at Leyton. Dates of course depend on how the games are played and times are available by calling the school at 436-5262.
Also on the 8th, the FFA students will have Nebraska Ag in the classroom for the elementary students. I am not sure if this is the event where live animals join them in the classroom or if that comes later.
On Friday, February 9th the varsity wrestlers will be in Bayard for district competition, and I just want to congratulate Wyatt Resienberg for his recent 100th win. I’m sure it will be over that 100 mark after districts.
Also on the 9th the varsity girls and boys basketball teams will be in play at home against Guernsey. Girls at 4 p.m. and boys at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, the 10th will see the speech team headed to Rushville, and at Bayard its the wrestlers vs. NSAA (which has to do with determining how teams are classified depending on school enrollment). This will happen for girls basketball on the 12& 13th.
Safe travel and good luck to each of you.
The Midwest Theater will play the movie “American Fiction” on the 9th at 1:30 and 7 p.m. and the 10th at 7 p.m. and the 11th at 1:30 p.m.
On Saturday, February 10th there will be a Latina Red Dress event at the Gering Civic Center, and for more information please call 308-672-4517.
Also on the 10th the Golden Halo Foundation Casino Night fundraiser will be held at the Hampton Inn. This is hosted by Riverstone Bank and will be open from 5-10 p.m.
On Sunday the 11th, Boy Scout Troop #13 will host a Spaghetti Feed at the Gering Jr. High School between 11-1:30 p.m.
The Nebraska National Guard will have a blood drive on Monday the 12th beginning at 7:30 a.m. until noon at 2810 1st Avenue in Scottsbluff. This is just west of the high school. More information is available at [email protected].
Both the Scottsbluff Lied Library and the Gering Public Library have story time each week and the Gering Library also has Story Time Backpacks that you may check out, so check them out! These are for ages 3-6 years of age.
The Harrisburg Community Church will have their annual meeting following church services and a pot luck dinner this Sunday, February 11th. Everyone is welcome. Ladies Bible study, men’s breakfast, kids club and youth group are all events that everyone is welcome to join in on.
On Wednesday, February 14th, Valentine’s Day, the elementary students will have their parties toward the end of the day. There will be an early out on the following day for parent-teacher conferences and NO school on the 16th or on Monday the 19th.
The Midwest Theater will have live entertainment on the 14th with Swearinger & Kelli. They will sing a variety of music by such artists as Cat Stevens, Jim Croce and Fleetwood Mac. If these groups are ones you know, you are my kind of people!
Have a great week and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
