New Building And Grounds Superintendent Gives Report
The Kimball County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday morning to hear from department heads on the workings of the county government.
Heads of the roads, buildings and grounds, veterans office and KCTS gave the commissioners updates and reports.
Veterans Service Officer Program Coordinator Darcee Wheeland reported on new veterans numbers, military records and medical record requests for December 2023 and January 2024. County veterans receive more than $80,000 in benefits from the Veterans Administration each month.
Newly appointed interim buildings and grounds superintendent Monica Todorov said, “We are learning as we go,” and staff members are keeping a journal with pictures of projects they have completed. They have designed a daily task sheet and created a schedule and a check list.
Todorov asked for a rental fee for use of her personal backpack blower; she has used her blower on the parking lots and storm drains. Todorov was asked to assemble a list of tools and equipment they would need for the future.
The board approved a season of fertilizing, including four applications from McManigal Lawn and Landscape, LLC.
Randy Bymer from the road department told the commissioners that he has advertised for an employee who recently quit from the Kimball area. Meanwhile, on Friday, Bymer said he will interview an individual for a previously vacated position.
The department has been grading, doing sign work and repairing equipment, such as the belly dump and gravel truck.
An application for a permit to occupy county right of way on Road 45 from Black Hills Energy was approved. The line must be laid six feet deep, and Black Hills Energy is responsible for the 811 call.
Beginning with the second meeting in April, the county board will hold a planning workshop. Each quarter, the commissioners will meet after lunch to review policies, resolutions, and contracts in a workshop setting. The workshops are open to the public.
The next commissioners’ meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. March 19.
