Banner County Speech Team Heading To State Competition

Good morning! Beautiful weather, and we are sure ready for it, right?

Today, March 21st there are two happenings that I think you might be interested in.

One is at Backaracks in Scottsbluff this evening at 5:30 and is titled “Equal Pay Day.” It is hosted by Panhandle Business and Professional Women and is expected to end at 7 p.m.

The other one is by speaker Robert Zemanek on “DNA for the Genealogist” and will be held at the Gering Public Library Council Chambers at 2 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.

The Close-Up group is still out of town until this weekend and we wish the members a great educational experience and safety.

No school on the22nd because Banner County will be hosting the Quiz Bowl, which will be held in the big gym and begin at 1 p.m.

The speech team will be competing at the state contest in Kearney on the 22nd also. We wish all of you the best of luck and safe travel.

Still on the 22nd. Spring has sprung and the first rodeo that I am aware of will be the Lancer Rodeo at the Goshen County Fairgrounds Torrington. It will begin at 2 p.m. and then another one will be on the 24th at 6 p.m.

St. Agnes Catholic Church at 203 E 23rd in Scottsbluff will host a fish fry between 5-7 p.m. and everyone is invited.

At the Midwest from the 22nd to 24th the movie will be “Argyle.” It will play on the 22nd at 1:30 and 7 p.m., on the 23rd at 7 p.m., and on the 24th at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday the 23rd is filled with many activities beginning at 8 a.m. with a Women’s Basic Pistol course. This is offered by DefComp (Defensive & Competitive) Pro Shop in Scottsbluff. The location is 708 W 27th St,, Scottsbluff. More details: (308) 575-0596.

At 9 a.m there will be two craft shows – one in Bridgeport, the Spring Daze Craft & Vendor show at the Prairie Winds Community Center until 3 p.m., and the other is the Spring Fling Craft Show at 424 Flack Ave. in Alliance.

The Winter Farmers Market will be at the Legacy of the Plains Museum from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also from 10 a.m. to noon there will be a demonstration by Outdoor Photographer John Emery at the Agate Beds National Monument.

One of more to come next week will be an Easter Egg Hunt at the Landers Soccer Complex in Scottsbluff, beginning at 11 a.m. (and lasting a short time!) for ages 2-10 years of age.

Katie Margheim will present “Miracle Morning” – six personal development activities to change your life before 8 a.m. – at the Gering Public Library Community Room at 1:30 p.m.

That evening at 5 p.m. the feathers will be flying as the Wildcat Gobblers Heritage Banquet will be held at the Gering Civic Center with games, raffles and an auction. More information is available at 308-641-1244 or 308-631-4163.

Also at 5 p.m., the Westco HOF Banquet and Fundraiser will take place at the Hampton Inn & Suites with dinner beginning at 6 p.m. and the labor auction beginning at 7 p.m.

The 24th is Palm Sunday!

On Monday evening, March 25th, there will be a “Ladies Night Out‘ for ladies at least 21 years of age at the Valley Event Center, 2540 10th St, Gering. One of the shows will be “Men in Uniform.“

On the 26th, the music students will be headed to Garden County for MAC competition.

Also on the 26th will be the first day of a two-day Craft Fair in LaGrange, Wyo., at 100 D St., the elementary school. On the 26th it will be open from noon until 7 p.m. Hours are from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. the following day.

Also on the 27th, some students will participate in JAG, Legislative Day, and Jobs for America’s Graduates. And for the younger set, the Geography Bee will begin at 1 p.m.

Banner County School track practice has begun and meets are coming in the near future! Keep them in mind as they practice on our roads and highways and all around town. Good luck to all of you and be safe.
