Inmate Charged With Assaulting County Jailer
Inmate Jordan Crews has a new set of charges to contend with from an incident on March 13 in the Kimball County Jail.
The new charges include a 3A felony assault by a confined person-no weapon and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
Crews was transferred to the Lincoln County Detention Center and is being held on a bond of $25,000. He is scheduled to appear March 27 for a Kimball County Court status of waiver of preliminary hearing. Crews is represented by Stacy Bach.
Crews, 27, was arrested on March 9 during a Kimball drug bust and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of stolen property. Crews remained at that time in jail on a $5,000 bond.
The March 13 incident began after inmates were returning to their cells from exercising at about 2:30 p.m.
According to the affidavit filed by Kimball County Sheriff Dave Hottell, jailer “William Butler was putting the inmates back in their cell.” Hottell said Crews made comments about finding dead bodies in the cell and other comments referencing suicide.
The affidavit continues to state that jailer Butler told Crews to go to the “Special Purpose Cell” so he could be watched due to the comments that he made.
The affidavit says that Crews came out of the cell and “got into Butler’s face.” Then Butler moved Crews into the cell.
“When Crews began fighting Butler, Crews swung and hit Butler,” the affidavit states. “Trainee Nate Lousberg went to assist Butler, and they were able to get Crews under control. Crews was put in the Special Purpose Cell.”
Crews continued to attempt to get out, and Butler and Lousberg once again subdued him, the affidavit states.
