City Explains Why; Feral Cats Back In The News
At the special Kimball City Council meeting on March 19, county resident Roger Kaczmarek spoke to the council about the city billing the monthly landfill fee to county residents.
According to state statutes, county residents are charged a monthly landfill fee because dumping and burning is illegal. The Kimball Landfill is a city facility, but previously Kimball County had billed and collected the landfill fees from residents and then remitted a check to the city for those fees.
In an administrative decision, the city will now bill county residents for the landfill, and the county residents will then pay the city. This new method of collection began in January.
Beginning in April, the new landfill fee for county residents will increase to $27.90, with a $25 late fee imposed by the city.
In other business before the council, Sherrie Stevenson, on behalf of Northern Colorado Friends of Ferals, requested $2,000 in Keno Funds to trap, spay/neuter, vaccinate and release approximately 100 cats in Kimball. The council approved the Keno request.
Meanwhile, the Kimball High School Civics class gave a presentation on Kimball's growth and amenities. The students' dream is to build a recreational center in Kimball. They have studied other towns with such facilities, worked on how to fund a recreational center, and presented their findings to the city council.
The council discussed going back to two meetings a month. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for April 2. However, if the agenda is not full, they will only have one meeting in April.
It is anticipated that there will be three planned subdivisions on the agenda for April 16.
