Superintendent To Coach Horns Basketball

Trevor Anderson Has Winning Background As Coach Of Battle Creek Braves

Kimball schools Superintendent Trevor Anderson has added the role of boys basketball coach to his responsibilities.

Basketball and coaching are in his blood.

His head coaching record at Battle Creek, a Division C2 school near Norfolk, was 86-52 over five seasons from 2013-14 to 2017-18.

Before coming to Kimball four years ago, he coached multiple teams to conference/district titles and the state tournament.

Basketball coaching success runs in the family. Anderson’s father, Mark, compiled a record of 214-90 as head coach at Randolph. That included a D1 Nebraska state championship in 2014, a season in which Trevor Anderson also led his Battle Creek Braves to the state tournament.

“My dad and I have both coached in state tournaments, including at the same time in 2014,” he said. “He is up two titles on me.”

He said two of his former players are now successful high school coaches, one of them a state runner-up this year.

In Kimball, Anderson takes over a program that has been on the rise the last couple of years. This past season, the Longhorns went undefeated in the WTC regular season, were subdistrict runners-up to a strong Bridgeport team, and finished with a 15-8 record.

“I look forward to the opportunity to lead the boys basketball program and instill in them the confidence and discipline necessary to succeed at a high level,” Anderson said.

He succeeds Chad Miller as Kimball coach. Anderson could not be reached immediately Tuesday to comment on how Kimball’s coaching change came about.

After the season, Miller said, “It was a fun season that saw us continue to make strides and learn lessons along the way. Our players played hard throughout and really made all of us coaches and spectators proud all year.”
