April Showers Bring Snow Plowers

Banner County

Good morning, and as my daughter said last week, something she picked up ... April showers bring snow plowers, or whatever.

Yep, near 70 degrees one day and a blizzard the next, actually clear blue skies and almost 50, then clouds, high winds, and blizzard by morning. Some folks are still without electricity as I write this and I know they are working around the clock to repair all of the damage and downed poles.

Hopefully that is the last one for this spring. Many schools were closed Monday, including ours. Good call, people.

The book sale at the Gering Public Library continues this week and books are brought in continuously as books are sold so there is always new material.

Today is April 11th and through the 21st the Chadron State College will present “The Revolutionists.” They will perform in the Memorial Hall Black Box Theater from the 11th to 13th at 7 p.m. and on the 14th at 2 p.m. This is about women in France during the French Revolution.

Also on this date: The preschool program will start at 10 a.m. at the Wildcat Hills; at the Co-Op shopping center in Scottsbluff there will be a ‘Sip & Shop’ at the Good Life between 4 and 7 p.m.; the Zwetzig Skate & Bounce House will host Christian Skate Night at 6 p.m.; Lakota language classes will take place at the Scottsbluff High School at 6 p.m. ; and the FFA Banquet will be at our school at 6 p.m.

From April 11 to 13, the Gering High School will present the musical “The Music Man” at 7 p.m. Beginning on Friday, April 12th; at the Midwest Theater the movie “16 Candles” will play at 1:30 p.m. and again that evening at 7 p.m. in conjunction with Late Night on Broadway, with many downtown businesses staying open late! The movie is in celebration of its 40th anniversary and will play again on the 14th at 1:30 p.m.

There is NO School scheduled for the 12th here at home, but that may change with the recent snow storm closing school on Monday.

On Saturday, April 13th, our high school track team will be headed to Alliance and competition will begin at 9 a.m. There will be an exhibition and art sale at the Dirty Hippie Art Studio at 11 a.m. and that evening they will have live music featuring Jordan Hoff between 5-8 p.m. The location is 1824 Broadway.

Last but not least for Saturday, there will be “ Springtime Sips’, at the Western Nebraska Arts Center, a fundraiser that will be held in the Main Gallery between 7 and 10 p.m. There will also be a live auction, and more information is available at 632-2226. More live music is at 1824 Broadway on the 14th at 5 p.m. with Josh Hoyer.

The Banner County seniors went AWOL last Sunday and still were on Monday. Anyone know where they went and what educational experience they were experiencing?

Also on the 14th, there will be a Women’s Night of Worship at the Mitchell Berean Church between 5 and 8 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 16th the Monument Valley Iris Society will have a meeting at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center at 5:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.

The District Music Contest will be in Alliance on Wednesday, the 17th. We wish all sports and activity students safe travels and good luck.

There will be NO School on the 18th and 19th.

Banner County lost two ladies this past week with longtime hometown ties. We are sorry to report the loss of Sharon Mulford and Barbara Thompson. Our condolences to their families.

Take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
