Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Plans Being Made For July 4, 2025
The Tuesday, April 2, the Kimball City Council meeting began with Kim Baliman providing an update on the 2025 Kimball High School All-Class Reunion.
The last All-Class Reunion was held in 2015. The 2025 event is scheduled for July 4, 5 and 6. The organizers’ goal is to have 500 people in attendance for a parade, wine tasting, a craft and car show in the park, and various other events.
The 2025 reunion is in honor of Karen Robinson and Harry McNees.
In other business, the UNL traffic follow-up study was again on the agenda. The street department has installed pedestrian signs at the intersection of Chestnut and 2nd streets. The council deliberated on future measures to deal with traffic, including reducing roadway load restrictions on semis at certain times of the year and rerouting the trucks to the bypass.
Other updates on the agenda included the wastewater treatment plant, downtown improvements, strategies to retain businesses in Kimball, economic development and park equipment.
The wastewater treatment plant plan is almost complete and will be submitted to the Nebraska Department of Environment. Concrete work on the plant should begin later this year or early next year.
The current Gotte Park equipment will have to be removed before the new equipment is installed. More discussion will occur later as to what to do with the old equipment and when the new equipment will be installed.
Six public hearings for subdivision plots and rezoning requests are on the agenda for the April 16 city council meeting.
