Time To Celebrate Graduates ... And Mom's Day

Good morning and here is hoping you have had plenty of rocks in your pockets to keep you from blowing away!

Holy moly have the tumble weeds been having a great time. The folks out there trying to repair fence lines really have their work cut out for them.

Here we are already moving into the middle of May with Mother’s Day and graduations the big deal.

Today, May 9th, the high school Activities and Awards Banquet will take place at 5:30 p.m. and over the hill it is Spa Night between 4-7 p.m. at the Good Life, and beginning at 6 p.m. it is Christian Skate Night at Zwetzig Skate & Bounce House.

Tomorrow, Friday, the Modern Vintage Market in LaGrange will be open at 4980 State Hwy. 151; there will be Free sports physicals in Kimball at 10 a.m. at the Jr/Sr High School; and the movie for the weekend at the Midwest will play at 1:30 & 7 p.m. The movie is “Pride and Prejudice” and coincides with Broadway Late Night Shopping, 6-9 p.m.

Saturday May 11th, is a busy day, our 2024 graduates will hit the stage for diplomas at 3 p.m. Wow! just yesterday Jacob Bean was a 2-month-old little guy when I first met him and now here he is. Congratulations to all of you!

Other Saturday happenings include: ‘Trail Feathers: Bird Outing at the Morrill sandpits by the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies in conjunction with Nebraska programs, from 8-10 a.m.

Closer to home there will be a Mother’s Day Weekend Outdoor 3D Archery Shoot at the Wildcat Hills Recreation Center between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Good Life will help you build a collage with Kathy Kauffman between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Or you could join them at Elodies Oddie’s at 102 E. Overland for a Pottery with Mom session at 10:30 a.m. or on the following day at 3 p.m.

If you are up Alliance way, P & H Designs will help you make a Door Mat beginning at 11 a.m. or later in the day you can meet up with fellow hikers at 120024 Everett Drive in Scottsbluff for a hike in the Wild Cat Hills that will last from 3-7 p.m.

If you would rather run than hike, at 4 p.m. meet at Summit Road and join runners for a Spring Up the Bluff, to the Scotts Bluff National Monument, which will take you back to the starting gate, Summit Road.

Lastly at the Legion Park, 1253 O Street in Gering, “Soaring Spearman’s are heading to Camp” will have food at 5 p.m. and an informative session at 7 p.m. on summer Bible camps. This is an open house, so come and go as you are able.

Then it’s time for Celebrating Mom’s Day.

The Gering Garden Center will be open on the 12th between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m .; the final showing of “Pride and Prejudice at the Midwest” will be at 1:30 p.m .; and at Huntley there will be a Sip’n Paint at Table Mountain Vineyards, at 2 p.m. with a colorful butterfly as the project.

Finishing out the week at the schoolhouse on Monday, May 13th, the 3rd. grade class will take a field trip up to the Will Cat Hills Nature Center.

The 14th is an Ice Cream Social involving the Student of the Month and Honor Roll students; and on Wednesday the 15th the K-5th graders will celebrate all of those books they have been reading with an AR party. Congratulations to each of you! Reading will take you everywhere!

Here is a heads-up ... The pre-K and kindergarten classes will have graduation next Thursday, the 16th.
