Busy Days As School Year Comes To End

Good morning! Here is trusting you had a great Happy Mother’s Day! Beautiful weather this week and lots of pictures on the aurora borealis – all of them beautiful.

Busy week as we are finishing up the school year and looking for the summer to come. Here at the school house, May 16th there will be an AR party, the fourth and last one of the year, the pre-k will have a field trip to the zoo and then graduate at 1:30 p.m. followed by kindergarten graduation at 2:30 p.m. Wow.

The next day the kindergarten through 2nd grades will have their field trip time to the zoo and the 4th and 5th graders will be heading to Fort Laramie. The 17th will also be a regular school day, but there will be the state track meet at Burke High School in Omaha and this will continue on the 18th.

So with all of this going on, “regular school day” seems an unlikely statement. Have fun and safe travel.

Also on the 17th, the Midwest movie of the week, “Civil War” will begin at 1:30 and 7 p.m. and again on the 18th at 7 p.m. and the 19th at 1:30 p.m.

Friday the 17th is also the date for Little Horse Creek cattle dog training taking place at the Wildcat Hills at 8 a.m. and again on the 19th at 9 a.m.

Also on the 17th, a Craft Fair at the Monument Rehabilitation Center (111 W. 36th St. ) wille be between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m .;

Meanwhile, there is a Season Photo Contest going on now through June 3rd at the Knight Museum & Sandhills Center in Alliance. Any seasonal picture is qualified to compete. More information is available at 308-762-2384.

Also now through May 25th, preregistrations for the Platte Valley Bank Beef Cook-Off are being accepted. Competition will take place on June 1st in Bridgeport at the Prairie Wind Community Center.

Saturday, May 18th begins with a Regional Walkamarch hosted by Agate Fossil Beds. This 5k/10k walk is available 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Up in that area, at Torrington, it is the Annual Community Shred Day hosted by Pinnacle Bank and the hours of service are 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday.

Down south in Kimball between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, there will be “Birding by Kayak” at the Oliver Reservoir hosted by the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and the Nebraska Programs project.

Also on Saturday, Lied Library in Scottsbluff will have several Mental Health Awareness events beginning at 9:15 a.m.

The monthly Free classic movie at the Midwest will be this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and it is “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.”

That evening at 5 p.m. the PVDR Spring Motorcross 2024 will be held in Mitchell at 60417 Mitchell South Road. This makes me think of the Rubber Check Races and I am wondering if they are preparing?

Monday is the Last Day of School for the students and it is also Patrons Day. No more teachers, no more books, nore more teachers dirty looks!

On Wednesday the 22nd the Panhandle Society Pet Health Fair will be in the old JC Penny building out at the Uptown Mall between 2-4 p.m. Great discounts here on shots and chips.

Have a great week and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
