Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Banner County
Good morning! After a couple of cool days earlier this week, we are off to warmer temperatures once again. The tumbleweeds still continue to be a pain in the derriere and we sure do need some rain.
School is out for the summer, so here in town things are pretty quiet. The stoplight during the roadwork out on the spur is slowing things down also. The first stop light in Banner County, and most likely the last!
In town, there are kids everywhere. Summer swimming lessons, reading programs, baseball and soccer!
Today, May 23rd, the Calvary Lutheran Church at 17 E Portal Place in Scottsbluff is offering a grab & go drive by & pick-up lunch between noon and 2 p.m., and the Midwest Theater will be showing the movie “Late Night With the Devil” at 7 p.m. I have never seen this film, but it is based on a 1977 Halloween night live television broadcast intended to scare the audience that goes horribly wrong. Hmmm. Anyone under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent.
Friday the 24th, kicking off the weekend, there is a Goshen County Health Fair in Torrington that will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2200-2298 E D Street.
The weekend movie at the Midwest will be shown at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and is “Rookie of the Year.” It will play again the following evening at 7 p.m. and finally on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Up in Alliance the Newberry’s Market, 402 Box Butte, will open at 4 p.m.
On Saturday evening at 6 p.m., the folks in Albin, hosted by the Albin Rescue will hold a fundraising event that will include dinner and a silent and live auction at the Community Center. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Monday the 27th is Memorial Day, bittersweet for many of us, because every day is memorial day.
However, many special services will be held at local cemeteries, including these two: Westlawn in Gering will have a prayer service at 10 a.m. and there also will be services at the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Alliance at 1 p.m.
On Tuesday, May 28th, the first of several summer Little’s Wild Workshops will be held at 100547 Airport Road in Scottsbluff, the NRD. This is for youngsters ages 4-10 years old, and parents stay on location. The time is 9-10 a.m.
On Wednesday, May 29th, the Gering Public Library will kick off its summer reading program in Legion Park for all ages. The time is 3-5 p.m.
And just like that May is going, going, gone!
Take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
