Feeling Like Summer With Weather & Events

Here is assuming you made it through Memorial Day, finishing out May and looking into the face of June, already! Beautiful weather here this week, feeling every bit like summer.

This evening, May 30th the Western Nebraska Arts Center will host the opening shows of Ginny Butcher and Karen Henneck with the topic ‘ “Captivated by the Landscape” from 5-7 p.m. These ladies are from Wyoming and have works created with pastels, oils and gouache. This is Free and open to the public.

On Friday, May 31st, this is the first day of a three day celebration in Bridgeport with Camp Clarke Days taking off with a hamburger feed by the Lions Club and the first showing of the Camp Clarke Play.

Saturday events in Bridgeport include horseshoe & cornhole tournaments, a parade, craft show, golf, mud volleyball, a beef cook-off and street dance. On Sunday are the Camp Clarke Play and an Alumni Luncheon that will conclude the celebration.

Besides those events, starting Saturday, June 1st. at 7 a.m. out at the Western Nebraska Regional Airport they will host “planes, cars & coffee” until 10 a.m.

The annual Color Dash for United Way will begin at 8 a.m. at the Five Rocks Amphitheater. Registration is required and may be done online.

If you would rather walk than run, the Scotts Bluff National Monument will host a guided 1.6 mile hike on the Saddle Rock Trail which begins at 9 a.m. Registration is required here also by calling 436-9700.

The Runza Best Ball golf tournament will be at the Scottsbluff Country Club at 8 a.m. on June 1st and at 2 p.m. on the 2nd.

The same dates apply for a two day Horsemanship Clinic that will be held at the Black Bluffs Equestrian Center at 1605 S D Road in Mitchell. Text them at 970-815-5470. Times are at 9 a.m. on the 1st & 4 p.m. on the 2nd.

The 987 Big Boys Cruisin’ Night in Sidney will be on the 1st.

A bit closer to home, in Kimball at the fairgrounds they will have that Ranch Rodeo that will begin at 5:30 p.m. See more information about this on Page A2.

Sunday morning, the Knights of Columbus at 1719 1st Ave. in Scottsbluff will hold a breakfast buffet between 8 a.m.and noon.

On Monday, June 3rd the Gering Public Library will have speaker Marci Broyhill talk about Nebraska pioneers with her topic being “Dreams and Goals” at 7 p.m..

The 4th brings Summer Reading sign-up at the Leid Library in Scottsbluff between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

On the 5th at 8 a.m. there will be a 3-wheel motorcycle class for women at WNCC. Also on Wednesday you are invited to check out the new bike trail at 3 p.m. at 3109 Ave. B, Scottsbluff;

The Gering Public Library will hold Nature Adventures with the Wildcat Hills in the Legion Park on the 5th at 1:30 p.m. for kids in K-5th grades.

And the next day, June 6th, they will have Adventure Cupcakes for teens at 3 p.m. in the library.

Movies at the Midwest Theater this weekend begin on May 31st at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. for “The Unsung Hero,” which will be shown one more time on the 2nd at 1:30 p.m. The Summer Movie series will start on the 6th with “101 Dalmations” at 1:30 p.m.

Vacation Bible Schools are already popping up, and of course the Pioneers have had their opening night recently, so take me out to the ball game!
