Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Some bowling news to pique your interest!
Quite a few bowlers from Kimball have completed the 2023-24 season at Pine Bowl in Pine Bluffs and are looking forward to the next season starting in September.
Signing up for a league at Pine Bowl qualifies you for the Wyoming State Bowling Tournament each year. This year, on May 11-12, the state bowling tournament was hosted at Camelanes in Gillette.
Kudos to Kimball's Codel Charvat for winning the Wyoming State Men's Scratch Singles with an impressive 268-266-264 series totaling 798.
Prior to his first time participation in this year's scratch singles, along with 579 other bowlers, Codel has bowled in the Colorado and Nebraska state tournaments. He bowls in several leagues at Pine Bowl, including the Tuesday morning coffee league, and every other Wednesday and Friday night leagues with his wife, April.
Before moving to Kimball, the Charvats lived in Colorado, where Codel was a member of the Amateur Bowlers Tour.
Codel and April also bowled in the Wyoming State High 5 Tournament, which took place May 17-19 at the Two Bar Bowl in Cheyenne. The High 5 consists of the highest average bowlers from each bowling area in Wyoming to make up a 5-person team. There are A and B teams. Women bowl handicap and men bowl scratch. Codel bowled a 299 game in that tournament as well.
At the Pine Bowl, open bowling this summer will commence on June 20th. There's also pot bowling on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. through summer. For more information, call (307) 245-3622.
