Banner County Cowboy Wins State Steer Wrestling Championship
Banner County's Wyatt Reichenberg is the two-time Nebraska High School Rodeo Steer Wrestling Champion.
Wyatt competed at the state finals June 10-12 in Burwell. The Harrisburg cowboy had a total of 132 points.
State finals was two rounds and a short go. Wyatt had a time of 6.07 in Round 1, but broke the barrier in the second round with a 14.03. In the short go, Wyatt won the round with a 4.42. All the points from the top 15 rodeos of the season and the state points earned him his championship.
Wyatt's final season of high school steer wrestling was a tough one as he lost his mare after the first weekend of spring rodeo. He borrowed a horse for the rest of the season, then bought a new horse. Although he was able to jump off of it, he was having trouble in the box.
So for the finals he once again borrowed a horse and will probably need to borrow one for nationals. Nationals is July 14-20 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Wyatt graduated from Banner County High School in May and will be rodeoing in the fall for Chadron State College.
Also showing well at the state rodeo was Kimball bull rider Cody Brinkman, who was third in his event.
