My Oh My, Has It Ever Been Hot!

Banner County

Good morning, I hope this finds you keeping cool! My, oh my, but has it ever been hot!

A lot of hail and high winds in the valley, and our thoughts are with those folks with severe damage. The rain was greatly appreciated though, and we still need more.

This last week of June we are finishing up VBS here at home and looking toward the 4th of July.

For today, however, June 27th the Calvary Lutheran Church in Scottsbluff will have their Grab-n-Go Lunch available for you from noon to 2 p.m.; the Midwest Theater will play ‘The Little Mermaid’ at 1:30 p.m. as part of the summer series movies and in celebration of the 35th year of that movie. In Torrington at the college, there will be a Archaeology Symposium beginning at 5 p.m. and continuing through the 29th.

Also on the 27th, Avid Discord and Float Like A Buffalo will be playing at the 18th Street Plaza, 6 p.m. – and remember your lawn chairs or blankets! That same evening is Adult Anime night at the Gering Library at 6:30 p.m.

The following day, the last Friday of June 2024, the Summer Slam softball game will be played in Scottsbluff at 2904 2nd Ave. at 1 p.m., and the weekend movie at the Midwest will begin. Showing at 1:30 and 7 p.m. is the movie “Summer Camp.” This is about three friends who met at camp years earlier and kept in touch for several years, falling apart, and reuniting at a summer camp reunion. It will play on Saturday also at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 1:30.

If you happen to be in Mitchell that evening at 5 p.m., a pulled pork meal benefit dinner will be served at the Holy Apostles Church, and down south in Potter they will be starting a two day celebration at 6 p.m. with their annual Carbowl event.

In Crawford at the Post Playhouse, they will be performing “Honky Tonk Laundry” on the 28th and 29th at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, June 30th at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, June 29, the Farmers Market will be at the 18th Street Plaza between 8 and 11 a.m., and in Melbeta beginning at 9 a.m. there will be a Vintage Convention at 211 Ringsby Street, which will involve video games and action figures.

Also at 9 a.m., it will be WestWay Kids Grandparents Day at the zoo, and there will be a beginner/intermediate carbine class at DefCamp.

The Sponge Bob Musical will be performed at the Post Playhouse at 8 p.m. on the 2nd of July and on the 3rd they will perform Honky Tonk Laundry, also at 8 p.m.

Also on the 3rd, it’s Wild West Wednesdays at Chimney Rock from 5-8 p.m., and it will continue through August 7th.

The 4th annual Truck Show will be at the Five Rocks Amphitheater at 6 p.m. with trucks, food vendors, prizes and trophies. The annual Ice Cream Social and fireworks display in LaGrange will begin at 6 p.m. in the community building, and the annual Frontier July 4th celebration at Ft. Laramie will begin at 965 Gray Rocks Road. with authentic 19th century period music, 1- or 2- leg sack races, the Cheyenne Equestrian Trotters, and the Goshen County Pony Express. All of this will begin at 9 a.m.

Closer to home, the Allred Brothers Fireworks Show will begin at 9:15 p.m. July 3 at the Five Rocks.

Happy 4th everyone. Be safe, be happy and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
