Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Banner County
Good morning and Happy 4th of July, 2024 to you all! A lot of fireworks are blowing up all around the area, and a few have already been here and gone.
For example, the yearly Ice Cream Social and fireworks in La Grange was July 3rd, so sorry I missed that last week. However, if you have gone for the last 50 years like some of us, you just know these things. I really am sorry though.
There also are two events that happen weekly in the valley, and I don’t always mention them, so here is a reminder. The Gering City Band plays at Legion Park at 7 p.m. every Thursday, and the summer Farmers Market is every Saturday at the 18th Street Plaza in Scottsbluff from 8-11 a.m. There are also concerts in the Plaza every Thursday evening with various musicians. Guess that makes three, huh?
The annual Frontier July 4th celebration in Ft Laramie (965 Gray Rocks Road) will begin the 4th at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day with authentic 19th century period music, the Cheyenne Equestrian Trotters, 1 & 2 legged sack races, and the Goshen County Pony Express. Busy day for sure.
In Bridgeport on the evening of the 4th at the fairgrounds, the annual Camp Clarke Stampede Rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. with fireworks to follow. This will happen again on the 5th. I have spent many a year on those benches.
Friday, the 5th there will be a presentation at the Scotts Bluff National Monument by park ranger Eric Graves about overland trail cutoffs. This will begin outside at 7 p.m. and moved inside if the weather will not cooperate.
This is free and open to all ages.
Tuesday is the beginning of a two day Zoo Day Camp for kids in kindergarten through the 5th grade. It will run between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will include crafts, tours, and educational activities.
Wednesday the 10th Meadowlark Hearth Farm (120024 Everett Drive ) in Scottsbluff will host a Farm Garden Tour from 5-6 p.m. and there will be a WestWay Kids Pool Party at the YMCA Trails West site from 6-8 p.m.
The Post Playhouse schedule for the week is “Kiss Me Kate” at 8 p.m. on the 5th and 6th and 2 p.m. on the 7th. ‘The Wizard of Oz ‘will be performed on the 6th at 2 p.m. and on the 9th the “Jersey Boys” will play at 8 p.m. Finishing off the week “The Sponge Bob Musical” will play on the 10th at 8 p.m.
The Midwest does not have a movie this week, however for a heads up the kids movie on the 11th will be “Cars’, a little bit of Git-R-Done fun!
Have a great week and take care until the next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
