Summer Carries On, But Harvest Crews On Way

Banner County

Good morning! Hope you all got a bang out of this past week!

I sure did, sometimes past 1 a.m. Love the holiday, but will admit that I am glad it is over.

Now this coming weekend the big deal is Oregon Trail Days.

But first, today, July 11th, there is a Zoo Camp for kids grades K-5th between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and there is a Free family swim day in Morrill beginning at 1 p.m. Their pool is located at 126 Jirdon Ave.

The movie “Cars” will show at the Midwest Theater at 1:30 p.m. as part of the summer series for kids and at 6 p.m. there will be Christian skate night at the Zwetzig skate house.

Bands on Broadway will feature Brandon Jones and Kalem Krohe Reference at 6 p.m.

The 11th is also the first night of the carnival which will be at the Five Rocks Amphitheater, opening at 9 p.m. and running through the 14th.

This year marks the 103rd year of the annual Oregon Trail Days celebration and believe me there is always something going on.

On Friday, the 12th the Don Childs Memorial 5K Run will be from 6-9 a.m. and this is the opening day for the quilt show at the Gering Middle School at noon. There will be a food fair and car show, both downtown and beginning at 5 p.m., and live music at 8:30 p.m.by Guild of Ages.

On Saturday, July 13th, the farmer’s market will be from 8-11 a.m. at 18th Street Plaza, and also at 8 a.m. there will be a Trail Feathers Bird Outing at Meadowlark Hearth Farms.

As part of the Oregon Trail days celebration on Saturday, there will be a bicycle hill climb beginning at 6 a.m. at the Scotts Bluff National Monument and a parade at 10 a.m., and throughout the day there will be a craft show, quilt display, chili cook-off, luncheon at the Legacy of the Plains Museum, mud volleyball, and both horseshoe and cornhole tournaments. Loaded Dice will play at an evening street dance.

Also on Saturday, the Circus will be in Torrington at 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds. and the folks in Lingle will be having a “Bring Your Own Pool Party” at 3 p.m. This won’t be hard to find!

That evening at 7 p.m., there will be the #4 Points Race at Inland Truck Parts. That covers the weekend pretty much.

On Monday, there will be a Varieties of Summer Theater Camp at 15 W 16th in Scottsbluff at 1 p.m. and on the 16th from 9 a.m. to noon there will be a Marker Spa Camp at Elodie’s Oddities, 102 E Overland.

Also on that date, the first market of the summer in Morrill will be from 3-6 p.m. on Hess Lane.

Plays at the Playhouse this week are: “Kiss Me Kate” on the 11th at 8 p.m.; on the 12th “Jersey Boys” at 2 p.m., and “The Wizard of Oz” at 8 p.m.

On the 13th, “The Sponge Bob Musical” will be at 10 a.m., “Honky Tonk Laundry” at 2 p.m. and “Kiss Me Kate” at 8 p.m.

On the 14th it will be “The Wizard of Oz” at 2 p.m. and a movie at 6 p.m., “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Well that about does it. Take care and be watching out for those harvest crews. They should be showing up any time soon now.

Until next time, Barb Cross at 436-7152.
