Hotter Here Than In Nevada & Oklahoma

Banner County

Hot Time, Summer in the City ... or around here anyway!

One day last week I was watching temperatures and comparing those with family in Nevada and Oklahoma, and ours were higher for 3 or 4 days. Cooling off now in only 90s for the rest of the month, maybe.

Harvest is well under way even with some recent rain and hopefully that will out run any hail we might be in for.

The Farmers Market is still every Saturday at 18th Street Plaza from 8-11 a.m. and the folks in Morrill have theirs at the FOMO Park on the east side every Tuesday from 6-9 p.m.

I do have a few tomatoes on, peppers are trying, and the cucumber is coming out of the last hail storm. So, all is good on my end.

Today, July 18th at 1:30 p.m. the Midwest Theater will show “Frozen” as part of the children’s summer series and tonight at the 18th Street Plaza the Bands on Broadway will have The Greendales and New Wave Time Machine performing for your entertainment at 6 p.m.

On Friday, July 19th between noon and 3 p.m. it will be Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Homestead Days at Fort Laramie, 965 Gray Rocks Road. This is the 86th anniversary of the founding of Fort Laramie as a National Monument.

A little later, on the 19th at the Scotts Bluff National Monument, “Music of the Miner and 49ers” will start at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater, or inside if the weather is bad.

At 7:30 p.m. Movies in the Park will show “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem – the park is Frank Park at 2804 2nd Avenue in Scottsbluff and showtime is 7:30 p.m.

Also at 7:30 p.m., and much closer to home, there will be a Wildcat Hills Bioblitz which is Free – and all ages are welcome.

Saturday the 20th will be a busy day in Morrill as they celebrate Horse Creek Rendezvous Day beginning with at 5K walk/run at 7:30 a.m., followed by a 1 mile run for the kids at 8 a.m. Breakfast will be in the park between 7 and 9 a.m. and the Rodders & Friends Car Show will be on hand, plus a kids bike parade at 10 a.m. with the Rendezvous parade at 11:00 a.m. There will also be a Free BBQ, cornhole tournament, live music and a street dance that evening.

Also on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. the Cheyenne County Fair & Rodeo will begin in Sidney This is the 138th anniversary of this event and a full schedule can be found at http://www.CheyenneCountyFair.com. I do know that on the 23rd there will be a PRCA rodeo and WPRA barrel racing at 7 p.m.

Well, that’s all for now. Take care until the next time and stay cool! Barb Cross at 436-7152.
