Wildcats FB, VB & XC Get Ready As School Opens

Good morning, and happy first week of Back To School! Man has the summer ever flown by!

The first football game of the season will be here at home, but not until the 30th, at 2 p.m. vs. Sioux County. Just a heads up.

Also coming up for the Wildcats is cross country on Aug. 29, and volleyball on Aug. 29 at Hyannis and Aug. 30 at home against Sioux County, just like the football team.

Until then ... here are the events of this week.

Today, August 22 the first of a two-day “Rats On The Platte 2024” will beat the Scotts Bluff County Fairgrounds in Mitchell from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with car shows, music by The Atomic Drifters, a killer BBQ, roaring engines, Rat Rods, Kustoms, dirt racing, burnouts and more. This is a two day event.

On Friday, the 24th the three day Beef, Beans and Bluegrass Festival will kick off at the Weborg 21 Centre at 6 p.m. with dinner, music, a live auction and more.

Saturday the entertainment continues beginning at 10 a.m. in downtown Scottsbluff with more Bluegrass music, food trucks, games,activities, educational workshops for all ages, speakers and more; the Festival will continue Sunday morning at the Legacy of the Plains Museum with more of the same plus Church Services. Events Saturday & Sunday are Free and Friday dinner tickets are required.

Another three day entertainment choice is the movie of the week at the Midwest Theater. Beginning on Friday, August 23rd, and keeping in tune with the Beef, Beans and Bluegrass Festival, they will have a weekend of Westerns.

On Friday at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. “Horizon – An American Saga” will play. Saturday at 12:30 p.m. it will be “The Rider” and at 3 p.m., “The Dead Don’t Hurt and at 7 p.m. Finally, “Horizon – An American Saga” will be on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Sounds like a rootin’ tootin’ good time!

On the 24th, the Farmers Market will be at the 18th Street Plaza between 8 a.m. and noon, and the Tom Watson Memorial Mitchell/Morrill Golf Scramble will begin and continue through the 25th. For more information please call 308-247-2817.

Also on the 25th at 3 p.m., the Humbletown Band will be performing at 3109 Ave. B in Scottsbluff.

Next Wednesday, August 28th, the Scottsbluff/Gering Economic Forum and luncheon will take place at the Gering Civic Center between 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Kansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid and Omaha Branch Executive Nate Kauffman will address the event.
