Ex-Marine Nate Lousberg Joins Kimball County Sheriff's Office
The Kimball County Sheriff's Office has a new deputy, Nate Lousberg.
Lousberg was sworn in as an officer last week by Michele Woods at the county courthouse.
He told the Observer that he grew up in the small town of Fleming, Colo, about 20 miles east of Sterling.
Serving in the Marines is part of his story.
"I spent about 10 years in active service to our country with the United States Marine Corps," he said. "During that 10-year period, I spent about 4 and a half years outside the U.S., mostly between Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Japan."
He said he had three Primary Military Occupational Specialties – 0621 Field Radio Operator, 0933 Combat Marksmanship Coach, and 6842 Meteorology and Oceanography Forecaster (METOC).
"With those specialties I had other duties that fit the missions of whatever command I was under at the time," he explained.
After the Marines, he moved to Sidney and took a job with Cabela's at the distribution center north of Sidney. He worked in the gun cage of the distribution center until Bass Pro announced the closing of the facility.
After that, he went to WNCC and studied in the Power Line and Construction Program. After successful completion of the program, he took a position with the City of Kimball, which is how he ended up here.
"I have lived in Kimball for four years now," he said. "I am a member of the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department and the Kimball VFW. I am also on the Kimball County Veterans Service Committee."
Along with those roles, he serves as commander of a DAV Chapter located in Fort Morgan, Colo.
"I decided to leave my position with the city and pursue a career in law enforcement because I did not feel I was serving the community to the maximum of my potential," he said. "I felt joining the sheriff's office would provide that maximum in service. I hope to be able to help improve the community and I plan to do so to the best of my ability."
