Appointments Made To Kimball Boards At City Council Meeting

A number of mayoral appointments were made Sept. 24 at the Kimball City Council meeting.

Mike Downey was appointed to the Planning Commission, Tammy Land to the Board of Public Works, and Jodel “Jody” Keeler to the Housing Authority Board.

In other business, Police Chief Jose Ruiz presented a mutual aid agreement with the City of Sidney Police Department, which was approved by the council.

This agreement allows Kimball officers to assist in Sidney when necessary, particularly in executing search or arrest warrants.

Sidney officer also will assist in Kimball at times under the agreement.

Chief Ruiz also provided a report on the police department’s activity since the last council meeting.

The department responded to 110 calls, covering a wide range of incidents including traffic stops, abatements, medical assists and welfare checks.

Ruiz noted that 45 abatement cases were addressed, with 31 cleared, 12 in progress, and two forwarded to the city attorney.

The chief highlighted several arrests, including charges for bond violations, assault, disturbing the peace, theft and strangulation.

The department also provided support to the State Patrol and sheriff’s department with traffic stops and other calls.
