THE QUEEN AND HER COURT

In the annual tradition, Kimball crowned its 2024 Farmer's Day Queen and attendants, honoring three young women who have distinguished themselves through their achievements and community involvement.

This year's Farmer's Day Queen is Gabriela Cruz, a senior with big dreams of becoming a professional pastry chef. Attendants are Renee Murdoch and Joey Miller, each with their own plans for success.

Gabriela Cruz, a senior at Kimball Jr./Sr. High School, was crowned this year's Farmer's Day queen, a testament to her commitment and dedication both in and outside the classroom. Gabriela, affectionately known as Gabi, is actively involved in school life, participating in one-act plays and student council. She carries with her the wisdom and encouragement of her mother, Silvia Melo, whose words – "always be proud of who you are, and keep making yourself prouder along the way" – have guided Gabi as she chases her dreams.

After graduation, Gabi plans to pursue her passion for the culinary arts by attending Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in Boulder, Colorado. Her ultimate goal is to become a professional pastry chef and open her own bakery. With a clear vision for her future, Gabi is motivated by the desire to make her family proud, especially her mother and siblings, as she bakes her way toward her dream career.

Renee Murdoch, the first attendant to the queen, is another senior at Kimball High School who shines through her dedication and leadership. As the daughter of Jamie and Dwain Murdoch, Renee is involved in an impressive array of activities, including cheer, cross country, track, band, jazz band, choir, show choir and more. Her leadership extends to the student council, National Honor Society, and the superintendent advisory board, where she contributes to shaping the school's future.

Renee's future plans include attending a four-year university to study dietetics and exercise science, reflecting her commitment to health, wellness, and helping others lead healthier lives. Her diverse interests and leadership roles are sure to set her up for success as she embarks on her college journey next year.

Joey Miller, the second attendant and a junior at Kimball High School, is the daughter of Jessica and Gabriel Miller. Joey is equally active in school activities, participating in volleyball, basketball, track, show choir, choir and more. She serves on the student council and is a part of the volleyball leadership team, showcasing her natural leadership skills. Joey is also a member of the superintendent advisory board, National Honor Society, and Kimball Committed, a group aimed at promoting positive school culture.

Looking ahead, Joey plans to attend a four-year university to study business management and leadership. Her involvement in both academics and athletics, along with her leadership roles, positions her well for a bright future in the business world.

As Farmer's Day queen and attendants, Gabriela, Renee, and Joey represent the best of Kimball High School – young women with dreams, leadership skills and a dedication to their community. Their achievements and future aspirations highlight the values of hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of personal passions. The Kimball community is proud to celebrate these students and looks forward to watching them continue to excel in their respective paths.

This year's Farmer's Day festivities not only celebrate the local agricultural heritage but also the bright futures of these outstanding young women.
