Good morning, Happy Fall, and greetings to Jack Frost. He has given me a notice stating that it’s time to put lawn furniture away and prepare for some cooler weather.
Combines are still pretty busy and so far so good.
There is an Early Out at the school house today for Parent/Teacher Conferences, and NO School tomorrow. Recovery time.
With Halloween falling in mid-week, most celebrations are taking place this weekend.
The Spooktacular will be open for the final time this year between 5:30-8:00 p.m. on both the 25th and 26th.
As I said there is no school on Friday the 25th, but the Book Fair will be opening and there will be varsity volleyball at Leyton at 2 p.m.
From 7 10 p.m., the annual fund raiser for the Western Nebraska Arts Center will be at Hotel 21 & Co. in Gering. The theme is “Day of the Dead” and there will be a Halloween costume contest, a wicked wheel, a spectacular basket for raffle, and a painting station. This is an Adults Only event.
Saturday the 26th at 9 a.m. Outpatient Radiology of Scottsbluff will host a Boo-Bie for Breast Cancer Awareness with a 5k walk/run at the YMCA Trails West Camp. Registration is a 8 a.m., and you are encouraged to wear either and/or pink or spooky outfits.
At 9:30 a.m., the Panhandle 2024 Jiu Jitsu Tournament will begin at the Scotts Bluff County Fair grounds in Mitchell at 9 a.m. This event is No-Gi, submission only and sponsored by Legion Combat Sports.
There will also be a Halloween Party at the Zwetzig Skate & Bounce House at 6 p.m. with special guest, Miss Nebraska.
Sunday the 27th the Rock Church will host a Rocktoberfest at 10 a.m. at the Weborg 21 Centre. They plan a chili cook-off, family friendly trivia , face painting and more.
Also on the 27th the Minatare Public Library will host Halloween Hijinks between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Broken Wheel. There will be a costume contest, penny carnival, cake walk and spooky goodies. Plus Trunk or Treat! For more information, please call 672-5776.
Here at home on both the 28th and 29th there is volleyball scheduled. For more information, call the school at 436-5262.
On the 30th, there will be another Trunk or Treat at the WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff, 1701 27th St., from 5-7 p.m.
That is about it for the upcoming week, but here are two big Heads Ups.
The annul Harvest Supper Hamburger Feed will be held at the fire hall next Thursday, October 31 beginning at 6 p.m. If your last name begins with the letters A-L, please bring a dessert, and if it begins with letters M-Z please bring a side dish. Halloween at the Museum will follow!
Also as a Heads Up, the Legacy of the Plains Museum will have a Halloween event on the 31st between 4-6 p.m. It is Free and your costumes are appreciated!
