Taking A Look At Local Ballot Issues

More Than 400 Early Ballots Cast In Kimball County

Over 400 Kimball County voters have cast early ballots for the November 5 election. With early voting continuing through November 4, and then polling places opening on November 5 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the time to make your voice heard is now. The polling places are the Sagebrush in Kimball, Bushnell Fire Hall, and the Dix Fire Hall.

At the forefront of the local ballot issues are the property tax levies for the Kimball County Agricultural Society and the Plains Historical Society. If approved, these levies will be in effect for five years or until 2029-30, and will significantly contribute to the operations and development of these community organizations. The Agricultural Society is requesting 1.15 cents per one hundred dollars of taxable valuation, while the Plains Historical Society is requesting a one quarter of one cent be to levied on one hundred dollars of taxable valuation.

The Dix and Potter cemetery districts each have a property levy on the ballot. Dix Rural Cemetery is requesting a one cent per hundred dollars in valuation, while Potter Rural Cemetery is requesting three cents per one hundred dollars of taxable valuation. Both levies, if approved, will be in effect for five years.

Most county and city candidates will have an easy time in the general election. On the county side, Dave Hottell is the only county commissioner candidate on the ballot. Kimball City Council will have two seats open, and just two names appear on the ballot: Jamie Murdoch and Austin Garner.

The Village of Bushnell has three open seats, and three individuals are on the ballot: Gene Russum, Jessica Rocha, and Gail Luehr.

As for Dix, only two names appear, but three village board positions are open. Dave Parshall and Daniel Mandt appear on the ballot, but another individual will have to step into that position.

The Kimball and Potter-Dix School Board have three positions open with each board having only three individuals on the ballots.

For Kimball School Board, Britni Toth, Taylor Brown, and Landon A. Smith appear on the ballot.

For Potter-Dix School Board, Colt M. Alexander, Royce McConnell and Trustin Vrtatko appear on the ballot.
