Fine Season Ends For Coyote VB

NORTH PLATTE – The Lady Coyotes made the trip to neutral site North Platte on Saturday, November 2, 2024 to match up against the 33-0 Southwest Lady Roughriders. The Lady Coyotes entered the D1-1 District Final as the 16 seed, and Southwest was seeded number 1.

Lady Riders quickly opened a big lead in the first set, with their tall front line players banging down kills and overwhelming the Lady Coyotes. The Potter-Dix girls were able to string a few points together, but could not break through the Lady Riders’ tough defense and dropped the first set 25-9. Potter-Dix played better in the second set, stringing together a few good points, but again mainly scored off of Southwest errors, which were very few. The Southwest girls took the second set 25-13.

Potter-Dix tried to rally in the third set, but the Southwest girls were just too sharp and were able to counter all of the Lady Coyotes’ attempts to score. The third set ended in a 25-12 victory for Southwest, completing the 3-0 sweep.

The Potter-Dix girls had a fine season, overachieving to take a SubDistrict title and ending with an 18-15 record.

Head Coach Keri Mendoza said, “The Southwest team executed very well and they were huge. Our season was up and down with lots of injuries and sickness along the way. Lucky we hit subdistricts fairly healthy and with only one injury.

“The highlight of the year was the SubDistrict final game against Morrill. The girls fought hard and wanted to give up a couple times. The mental toughness got them past Morrill.  We were down 4-10 early and 10-14 both in the 5th set the girls were all giving me the sad face. I told them ‘it isn’t over yet,  fight till the last ball drops.’ What an amazing game!  All and all we had a good season.”
