Potter-Dix Season Ends In 1st Round Of NSAA Championships

RED CLOUD – The Potter-Dix Coyotes made the long trip to Red Cloud last week for the first round of the Class D6 NSAA Football Championships, and ran into a high-powered Warriors’ offense that took the Coyotes quickly out of the game and ran away with the contest.

Red Cloud scored early and often, piling up 28 points in the first quarter against Potter-Dix’s 6 and they didn’t let up in the second quarter, putting up 30 more points to take a 58-22 lead at the halftime intermission. The Red Cloud boys put up 24 more points in the second half against just 6 from Potter-Dix and breezed to the 82-28 victory.

The Coyotes were able to pass the ball, with juniors Dylan Tabor and Landon Gasseling combining for 16 completions out of 25 attempts for 258 yards and three touchdowns. But the Warriors put the clamps down on the running game, keying on Tabor and limiting the Coyote rushing attack to just 52 yards and no touchdowns.

The Warriors passed for 170 yards and three touchdowns, but it was the running game that put the game out of reach for Potter-Dix. The Warriors rushed 26 times for 312 yards, with junior Gage Ely rushing for 238 yards and five touchdowns.

The young Coyote team finishes at 4-4 on the season, and most of the starters will carry over to next year when the experience of this year’s successes should strengthen the team.
