The Grass Is Always Greener In December? School Christmas Program Tonight

Good morning! Here we are in the first week of December and my grass is still green as can be. I used to want snow for Christmas, but in the last few years I would rather just skip winter and go into spring with showers. Any moisture is appreciated though, since it has been so dry for so long.

Today, Thursday December 5th, it is storytime at the Scottsbluff Library at 10 this morning and again at 3 p.m.

This evening is the open house at the Western Nebraska Arts Center for “Orchestrated Stability” by Charlotte Ingram between 5 and 7 p.m. This is open and Free to everyone.

Here at home the 6th graders will hold their Entrepreneurship Expo at 4:30 p.m., and the all school Christmas Program will be at 6 p.m

The following day there is No School.

On Friday, annual Mingle & Jingle at the Gering Library will be between 3 - 6 p.m.

The 7th is a busy day everywhere.

At home, Breakfast with Santa will begin at the school at 8:30 a.m., the high school wrestlers will be in Mullen and hit the mats at 9:30 a.m., while the varsity girls basketball team will play at 1 p.m. in Garden County and the boys will play at 2:30 p.m.

The Community Carry-In Supper will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Elsewhere, 10 a.m. events include Christmas at the Rock, Chimney Rock that is, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m .; the Family Nature Club will be at the Scottsbluff National Monument checking out Frosty Friends; and the High Plains Christmas Soup Luncheon at the Legacy of the Plains Museum will open until 3 p.m.

The Midwest Theater will take part in a Very Merry Christmas Downtown from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other hightlights include, at 2620 College Park at 1 p.m., a puzzle competition will get underway. Also, the Jingle Jog 5k Fun Run 2024 will begin at 2002 Broadway, with registration at noon and race at 1 p.m. .

The Midwest Theater will have an event called PJ’s, Pals and Popcorn at 4:30 p.m. This will involve building a critter/pal and a movie at 7 p.m. For more information, please call 632-4311.

If you missed the parade of lights in either Gering or Scottsbluff, Minatare will have one at 6:30 p.m.Then a FREE concert, “A Very Valley Christmas,” will take place in the Judy Chaloupka Theater, 1601 E 27th, at 7 p.m.

The monthly Banner County School Board meeting will be on Monday at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

On the following day, the varsity girls basketball team will play in Minatare at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will follow at 7 p.m.

Also on the 10th in Kimball at 10 a.m. there will be a learning session at Nebraska Coffee titled “Tech Talk: Bridging the Digital Divide.”

Our middle school girls basketball team will challenge Potter-Dix at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11th, and the boys will play at 2 p.m. The games will be away. Good luck and safe travel to all of you through out the week
