Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

The Week Before Christmas Is Here!

Good morning! It is a hard thing to believe, but Christmas arrives in less than a week. My, oh my, but this year has flown.

Here at the schoolhouse, we are having the AR party for the elementary students today, plus the Christmas party will start at 2 p.m.

Today is the 19th and the middle school basketball teams will be heading to South Platte for action at 1 and 2 p.m.

The Yuletide Lights tour is open today through the 21st at the legacy of the Plains Museum between 4 and 6 p.m., and the Wild Lights display out at the Riverside Discovery Center is open today through the 21st between 5 and 7 p.m.

And there’s more wild stuff as the Midwest Theater will play “The Wild Robot” at 7 p.m.

On Friday, Dec. 20, the high school wrestling team will head to Sutherland and hit the mats at 9 a.m., while there will be girls and boys varsity basketball games here at home vs. Potter-Dix. The girls will play at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will follow at 7.

School will be dismissed early that day at 1 p.m. for Christmas vacation.

The Midwest Theater will play “ELF” at 1:30 p.m. & 7 p.m. and Elodies Oddies will offer a painting class at 6 p.m. and the subject is Winter Winds.

On Saturday the 21st, there’s more sports even though school is out as the girls and boys varsity basketball teams travel to Edgemount, where the girls will play at 1 p.m. and the boys at 2 p.m. Safe travel and good luck during each of these competitions.

The Midwest Theater will show the “Wizard of Oz” at 1:30 p.m. in observance of that movie’s 85th anniversary. This one was one of those we watched every year, kind of like Peter Pan. Little flying monkeys are still scary!

At 7 p.m. ‘Die Hard ‘ will play, and at 5 p.m., if you missed ELF earlier, it will be shown at HQ, Papa Moon.

The Chuck Wagon Church, 1408 12th Street in Scottsbluff, will host a Free soup supper and Christmas program beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Midwest Theater will show “It’s a Wonderful Life” at 1:30 p.m. and at 7 p.m. they will show “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” This is on the 22nd – and then the last movie mentioned will play again on the 23rd and the 24th at 1:30 p.m.

Also on the 24th, WestWay Church will have a service at 6:15 p.m., and their address is 1701 W. 27th St., while St. Francis Episcopal Church will have services at 8:30 p.m., and they are located at 1924 1st Avenue. Both churches are in Scottsbluff.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Deborah Gentz. She provided invaluable research, time, and effort in any situation that needed her. She will be missed and our condolences go out to her family.

School will resume on Jan. 7, 2025.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Stay safe and take care until next time. Barb Cross at 436-7152.
