Longhorn Boys Finish Week 2-1, Sit At 4-1

The Kimball Longhorns Boys Basketball team went 2-1 this week as they had convincing victories over Garden County and Morrill sandwiched around a close loss to Perkins County. The team currently sits at 4-1 heading into this week's games.

Against Garden County, the Longhorn offense struggled to get going early before their pressure defense created multiple turnovers resulting in a 20-4 lead after the first quarter. During the first quarter, Kyler Lusche eclipsed 1,000 points for his career as he gathered an offensive rebound and put it back in for two points to put him at 1,001 points for his career.

After the 1st quarter, the Longhorns never looked back as they rolled to a 68-34 victory. The Longhorn defense forced 26 turnovers and the team out rebounded Garden County 50-20.

Against Perkins County, the Longhorns found the script flipped for the first time this season as they trailed 19-6 after the first quarter. Turnovers and poor free throw shooting were the main culprits as the team turned it over seven times (twenty-three for the game) and shot 0-4 from the foul line (10-23 for the game) in the first quarter.

The Longhorns showed great determination and resilience as they battled back to tie up the score at 42 apiece in the third quarter, but could not complete the comeback as they fell by a score of 69-60.

Against Morrill, the Longhorns got back to their winning ways as they controlled the game from start to finish as they won by a score of 59-30. While the team struggled to find its touch from beyond the arc, the Longhorns dominated the paint as they outscored Morrill 36-16 and outrebounded the Lions 54-32.

In addition, the Longhorn D held Morrill to 20% shooting for the game as the team improved to 4-1.

Overall, I am very pleased with the effort of our team across all levels so far this season. Every player that steps on the court is giving all that they have.

While we were disappointed to drop a home game, it was good to see the team bounce back the next day on the road. We have two more challenging games this week as we wrap up our game slate prior to the Christmas break.
