New Homes, New Faces

Council Discusses Growth, Fills Openings

New faces were approved at the Dec. 17 Kimball City Council meeting for appointments to city boards and commissions.

The council approved the appointment of Jack Shaw to fill the open seat on the Board of Public Works, and Aaron Abraham became the newest member to fill the seat on the Planning Commission.

In other regular business, Mayor John Morrison signed the State of Nebraska Department of Transportation City Maintenance Agreement renewal, which requires yearly approval.

The previously approved development agreement between the City of Kimball, the Estate of Darlene Janice Gardner, and Iron Guard Housing, LLC was amended to install and connect utility improvements to the city’s waste and sewer system.

According to a letter from M.C. Schaff & Associates regarding the Iron Guard Housing Mobile Home Park, it is “served by a domestic well and septic system. There are plans to add additional dwellings that would exceed the capacity of the well and septic system. Currently there are 75 homes with the potential for 25 additional to be added.”

The estimates from Schaff show a total population of 250 with 100 homes.

Another amendment of a different kind was approved of by the City Council for the Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrades. The 25-page amendment and attachments included in the city packet detailed the general provisions, scope of services, reimbursable expenses, and responsibilities and limitation of authority of the RPR.

A Jan. 7 public meeting regarding project financing is planned. The city seeks $5.7 million in financial assistance from the USDA. (See public notice on Page B5..)

Reports and public comments concluded the City Council meeting.

Mayor Morrison reported that the council would need to study, discuss and approve the city’s building fee schedule.

Don Lonsdale’s comments centered on the speed of emergency vehicles in town; he suggested that certain streets are more conducive for emergency vehicles.

Kimball resident Gabriel Miller asked about building permits for the Lighthouse subdivision area. Two show homes have been erected on the acreage west of Ace Hardware.

Council members are unable to comment on public comments at their meetings.
