Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Public Meeting Scheduled Jan. 7 On Kimball Improvement Project, Financing
The Kimball City Council will meet 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, to discuss and vote on the approval of an application for a loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development for an upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant.
The Board of Public Work has recommended approval of the project. The $5,736,000 loan would be for 40 years at a rate of 3.12%.
The update for the wastewater treatment plant is projected to cost that amount and will include replacing the clarifier mechanism and equipment, replacing the weir and scam battles, adding covers to the weirs, replacing and upgrading the aeration system, pump station lighting, repairing the outfall line, replacing the MCC, replacing the generator, reviewing and replacing plant wiring, repairing the sidewalk at the plant entrance, and installing a new mechanical raked bar screen and washer compactor with associated building structure.
The new CMU building – along with HVAC, plumbing, wiring, controls, grading and incidental items – will be included. Finally, the improvements will also replace the beltway intercept main sewer through the city of Kimball.
Discussions on the wastewater treatment plant began in March 2021. The city applied for federal grants but did not receive one.
The public notice for Tuesday’s meeting informed residents that the public will be given an opportunity to comment on the project.
Bids for the improvements will be received until Jan. 9 and opened at that time. The project is expected to be completed in 300 days.
