Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
With thoughts of a summer vacation in your thoughts, now is the time to apply for a U.S. Passport. A passport is necessary even if you go to Canada, Mexico or on a cruise.
After applying for a passport, it will take anywhere from six to 12 weeks to receive it, that is, if everything is filled out accurately and completely on the application form.
First-timers will need form DS-11, which can be downloaded or obtained from the Kimball District Court. Visit the website travel.state.gov/citizenship for a downloadable DS-11 form.
Kimball District Court has seen applications for passports double since 2020. The list of necessary papers for your passport application is very specific, and errors are not acceptable.
In addition to form DS-11, applicants need a color photo 2 inches by 2 inches, driver’s license or photo ID, a color copy of driver’s license front and back, vital records birth certificate, previous passport book if expired, or naturalization papers.
Today, the correct size of a color photo can be obtained at the U.S. Post Office in Kimball, but an appointment is necessary. Requirements include no eyeglasses, head coverings or uniforms in the photo.
When applying to the District Court, two separate checks/money orders are needed, one to the Department of State and one check to Kimball District Court.
If a name change occurs due to marriage, the marriage license is necessary.
Out of state applicants will need two forms of ID. The Kimball District Court has individuals from Wyoming and Colorado apply in the district court here in Kimball.
You are encouraged to read the application completely, eventually taking an oath affirming no drug convictions or other unlawful activity.
Special consent is required from parents if children 16 or 17 years of age are applying for a U.S. Passport.
The Kimball clerk of the District Court office has extensive knowledge and training on obtaining passports and is willing to help any individual with the process.
